I hosted a private Thai cooking class at my countryside home and garden farm just outside Chiang Mai. It was one of those easy, feel-good days - relaxed, hands-on, and full of good food from start to finish. We started the day with a visit to a local farmers market, where I introduced everyone to everyday Thai ingredients, fresh herbs, vegetables, and spices that we actually use in Thai home cooking. Walking through the market together is one of my favorite ways to begin a class—it helps connect the food to real life and shows how Thai people shop and cook day to day. After the market, we came back to my garden and took a group photo with the camping tents in the background, which really shows the countryside atmosphere here. This is not a studio or a tourist kitchen—it’s my home, my garden, and the place where I cook every day. Cooking Pad Krapow & Pad Thai - Hands-On Thai Wok CookingFast, hands-on moments from a real Thai cooking day. Because this was a private class, the pace stayed relaxed and personal. We talked about ingredients, Thai food culture, and everyday cooking tips you can actually use again at home. Lots of smiles, plenty of questions, and a lot of tasting along the way. This video explains the raw ingredients of Massaman curry before any cooking begins. One of the highlights of the day was making Massaman curry from scratch. We prepared the curry paste by hand, then slowly cooked the curry while talking about balance, timing, and depth of flavor. It’s a rich, comforting dish, and once you understand the process, it’s surprisingly achievable at home. We finished by sitting down together to enjoy everything we cooked, surrounded by the garden and countryside views. That shared meal at the end is always my favorite part—it’s calm, satisfying, This is exactly how I love to teach: authentic Thai food, a peaceful setting, and real connection through cooking. everyday Thai life All cooking shown in this post is prepared fresh on the day using locally sourced ingredients. This photo and video blog documents a Thai cooking class in Chiang Mai, including a market visit, garden cooking, Pad Krapow, Pad Thai, and Massaman curry ingredients. Start the day with a glass of butterfly pea flower iced tea. |
